Lone Star Trains and Collectibles,

Your Classic Era Train Headquarters!

CLEAN and RUNNING SMOOTHLY
This is a GREAT value in Collectible toy trains for the money--an engine you can put on the shelf in collector completeness or one you can run because it is ready to go!

You are bidding on an interesting American Flyer Northern steam engine from 1948. This is a CLEAN 332 Northern "Challenger" style 4-8-4 steam engine ready to go. It came in a set called the Union Pacific Freight Train as well as the Union Pacific Passenger Train with heavyweight cars.

THIS set has the DC version of the 332 (before it was labeled 332DC).

Please take the time to read the whole description below before bidding. We took time in writing it for you. We look forward to any questions--we answer all emails.

THE 332 4-8-4 Northern Union Pacific "Challenger" Steam Engine, DC powered

This steam engine and tender are super clean--wow.

WOW. The 332 is in excellent cosmetic shape. There are some paint rubs and light scratches here and there, all visible in the pictures. The most obvious is a horizontal rub in the paint on one side of the tender. Nice paint, good lettering with minimal interference.

I really like the herald on the front of the engine--really nice touch that is often overlooked on these.  Overall, the white wall wheels are nice. The numberboards look great, and I am not sure they are original. They don't look like repros I have ahd before, but they are so crisp it makes me wonder.

Has a REPRO WRAPPER and a modern box to keep it safe.

This engine has a DC Motor. You will need a large DC power supply (like you would use for G scale) OR an American Flyer Rectiformer to run.

I like running the DC engines because the engine is less likely to stall and reverse now and then on dirty track.  For the operators out there, it is much easier to digitize. But who would want to do that to such a beautiful collectible?

This is the version with the white lettering, white "American Flyer" lettering on the tender.

THIS one:

  • "American Flyer" tender version with a nice big UP herald
  • Smoke
  • Choo-Choo
  • DC Motor
  • Link coupler with the 49 blackened weight
  • 4-8-4 Northern
  • 12 Wheel tender
  • Die Cast
  • Two wire connection
CONDITION: Very clean. The engine runs, smokes and reverses and looks as clean as you will find. Some cosmetic wear such as some light scratches and some paint rubs, all visible in the picures. The most obvious is a horizontal paint rub on one side of the tender, visible in the pics. The lrettering is nice. Strong runner, smoker, and choo choo sound.

Please look at the pictures as they are part of the description.
UNBELIEVABLE. Really this is a locomotive you can run or that any collector would be proud to put on the shelf. Remember: condition, condition, condition. You don't know when you'll see this one so clean again, much less running as well as this one does.

PLEASE--for the Love of AC GILBERT--ask any questions you may have before bidding.

We have provided 20+ pictures--take advantage of them and look at every detail before bidding.
